Pending More Points

Right now AFKing overnight is the best way to get points instead of actually playing, which gives AFKers an unfair advantage as they are able to buy upgrades significantly faster/have a way better chance of winning the lottery or at the very least recovering from it.

This is FUCKED UP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Increasing the points gained from kills/winning rounds/fun rounds would make playing the server the best way to get points. It would mean you are earning upgrades through gameplay and not through playtime which is a lot more engaging. It would also make the lottery a lot less risky to join in since you could gain points back quicker, making it less likely that 1 person wins every time.

Decreasing upgrade prices might be good alternatively, but I think increasing the points gained also helps fix the problem people have with the lottery without ruining it.

this would also prevent people going AFK during a popped server. sometimes I'm not able to joint becuz there's 3/4 people AFK in spectator and although mods are quick enough to kick AFK players out it would lower this predicament from occurring

With the imminent arrival of the store - and with it, paid ranks and their perks - the store costs and the relative value of points will also see a change. So I'd want to see what the store and ranks contribute before considering whether points need further adjustment or not.
Remind me later.

Idk i get a decent amount of points for playing and i dont even afk. Aim better, get more kills = more points? -1

Same, I still think giving more value to actively playing players is a good idea.

+1, although I understand why AFKing is being incentivized. Having users AFK the server increases the total population on the server, which helps it appear higher on server lists.

With paid ranks and their perks now officially added, I'm back.
The direct impact of supporter and VIP (the most common options) aren't revolutionary or super exciting in terms of value in point shop.

As such, I think it'd be fine to bump active play somewhat. I think the following might be a good bump.
10->15 per valid kill as traitor with the +10 for a headshot kill unchanged.
Functionally a 25% increase on points for headshot kills as T.
Or a 50% increase on bodyshot kills as T.

40->50 per valid kill as an inno/dete with the +10 for a headshot kill unchanged.
Functionally a 20% increase on headshot kills as I/D.
Or a 25% increase on bodyshot kills as I/D.

It can always be adjusted further, but I think it would make a reasonable impact in regards to rewarding active play.

I'm not against increasing points earned in general, but it takes little to no effort to AFK. AFKs also help boost the server on the server list, making it more attractive for other players to join.

I think with the lottery being a huge hit people being able to gain a decent number of points to put into the lottery by playing TTT is a perfect way to drive engagement into playing out the rounds, and I personally love that.

+1, give people more points for playing the game

If I join what I think is a small pop server and 5 people are AFK and 3 people are playing I'm leaving.
Today I saw 15 people were on so I joined without checking the list, 7 were AFK. Each time this happens I trust low pop less and less. I'd rather join a 10 player server knowing 100% of the people online are playing than join a 20 person server and realize only 15 people are playing. When I was hopping around servers and joined a server with a spectator pop I'd just leave and avoid joining it again but maybe thats just me

nobody wants to keep their pc rubbing for some fake points in a game
Plus its gmod there's a reason a lot of people here play it, its easy to run on old computers. There's a good amount of people who just can't AFK because of this.

If it's so helpful to the server why not do it regardless of if there's points? I think AFKs should still get some points but it shouldn't be to the point where there's 5 AFK point farmers at all times. I feel like 2 hours of playtime should equal 12 hours of AFKing or something like that. AFKing for points shouldn't even be a thought in a sane world

I don't think this helps the point you make in your first post:
which gives AFKers an unfair advantage as they are able to buy upgrades significantly faster/have a way better chance of winning the lottery or at the very least recovering from it.
With your suggestion, people who play 6+ hours would have an unfair advantage as opposed to those that have jobs and other obligations and can only play for an hour or 2 every so often. :)
