Previous staffing experience
Moderator and Admin at STT/SGM
Why should you be considered for a moderator position?
1. Do you meet all the minimum requirements listed in the Requirements Thread?
If not, please explain which requirement(s) you don’t meet and why.
Yes, I meet the minimum requirements. I currently have 23 hours over the last 2 weeks and I have 21 hours and 57 minutes of play time on the server total. I have enabled Two-Factor authentication and am in the process of linking my Discord account.
2. Why do you want to join the Giants Lair staff team?
I would like to joint he Giants Lair staff team as I feel that I could make a great contribution to the team. I am absolutely loving the vibes that this community has cultivated. It both feels fresh, fun and exciting, as well as just like home. I think it is a really hard task to make a community feel that way and I would absolutely love to continue to contribute to that but in a more meaningful way. It is evident that the current team love what they do and enjoy spending their time here which in turn makes everyone else feel like they want to stay too. I love assisting and helping people where I can, and being able to do so in a moderator capacity will be both fulfilling but also a lot of fun too. I enjoy the thrill of managing reports, managing a server full of people and keeping things running smoothly. Now I am even older than I was before I feel I have even more skills that I could provide in this role as well.
3. What skills or experiences do you bring to the team?
(e.g., past staffing, conflict resolution, technical knowledge, etc.)
I have a lot of experience staffing. It is no secret that I had a long tenure at STTT/SGM back in the day. Overall I had 4 months of experience as a moderator and then a further 1 year and 3 months (ish) as an admin. As a moderator I was extremely dedicated to my hours. I would often hit 40_ hours per 2 weeks staffing on the servers whilst also working a full-time job, proof that I can time manage. As an admin I continued to keep those hours (until some very stressful personal circumstances required me to cut back). I also successfully cultivated my team and had 9 mods and even a lead admin come from my team so overall a very successful experience. I have plenty of experience from my real life as well. I have worked customer service and in high stress jobs that require multitasking skills all of which are essential to being a successful moderator, especially in full servers with a plethora of personalities.
4. How active are you across our platforms (GMod, Discord, Forums)?
Provide a breakdown if possible.
I am very active in the Discord currently and I am active in GMod when I can. As I work two jobs and my timezone is not the best, often the only time I can play is when the sever is quiet (especially on weekdays) however weekends I am on and have no issues dedicating time. The forums I am not as active on currently but I can easily work on that and increase my time engaging meaningfully with the community there too.
5. How much time can you realistically dedicate to staffing per week?
Realistically I could dedicate about 10 hours minimum per week. There will be weeks where that could be much higher however, especially as I intend to engage more with the servers during their quiet time to try and bolster the numbers and keep it going all hours of the day!
6. How well do you handle pressure, criticism, or heated situations?
I believe I handle high pressure situations well. When I was an admin at SGM the servers I typically spent most of my time on were vanilla servers. As these servers clearly have a lower bar of entry we would get all sorts of people on there. A lot of the time trolling of the sort was frequent and so I had to learn how to handle it all and I think I did well. There were many times where I had a server full of EU people from all countries giggling and playing along with little to no rule breaking. That is a skill that takes time to cultivate and be successful, so I think I am well equipped. Heated situations are not hard to deal with if done with empathy and a bit of humour to diffuse and I have found that has been the most successful. Of course, you will never get it right 100% of the time but having a laugh and being kind and genuinely listening when people have a problem will do wonders for getting it sorted fast. If there is one thing I have learned, most time people just need someone to listen and hear them out.
7. How would you describe your conflict resolution style?
As previously mentioned I am a huge proponent of using humour to defuse whilst also listening. Coming down too hard on people doesn’t always work and if anything in my experience just gets people more riled up. Obviously, there is a time and place to be heavy handed. People who are group trolling and making everyone have an awful time requires fast and succinct moderation to ensure it is dealt with quickly, but for the most part, lending an ear and having a giggle works wonders to keep people engaging with the community.
8. Are you familiar with the TTT server rules and general community standards?
Yes, I am familiar with the rules and general community standards. They feel very familiar but also more appropriate if that makes any sense.
9. What does your punishment history (if any) look like on our servers?
Thankfully my punishment history here is non-existent, however, I would be lying if I didn’t say that I didn’t have a punishment history at all. Ignoring what has happened when a lot of the community members were there when it occurred would be inappropriate. I had a colourful end to my time at SGM back in 2017. I was demoted from being an admin as my hours were extremely low and while I was active on the forums and consistently engaging with my staff team, due to my mums terminal illness I was unable to staff the servers. This wasn’t good enough for the owner at the time and so they demoted me. What transpired after obviously was not how I wanted things to go but at the end of the day once it was done, I eventually removed myself from being involved with the community as I didn’t want to continue to cause trouble. Unfortunately, because my name was tied to other people who continued to be involved, I was eventually COI banned. It was lifted eventually after some time, but it is a black mark on my record none-the-less. If you do have further questions regarding this situation or what me to clear anything else up, please do ask. I am an open book and have nothing to hide. While it was a long time ago and my memory of all the finer details might not be as accurate, I am still willing to explain what I can if needed.
10. What is your reputation like within the community?
I would like to think that my reputation within the community is good! I love chatting with people in the Discord but I know I also have a good giggle on the server as well. Some reputable people that could vouch for me would include Lemoncakes, Darktooth, Muffin, Rog, Noct, Elvis and possibly a few others but I don’t want to assume!
Thank you for your consideration! ☺️
