Previous staffing experience
I was promoted to Moderator in early 2014 for about 3 months or so, after which I was promoted to Admin in STTT/SGM where I led my team for about 2 and a half years. I remember my tenure as Admin very favorably, as I really enjoyed managing a team and contributing to a larger project with friends. Training Trial Moderators was something I especially enjoyed, and feel I was good at.

My moderation style is very in line with the vibe GL is aiming for, as my goal is always to simply foster a great environment where everyone is enjoying themselves. Being too heavy handed with moderation tends to inspire “rebellion” from players with troll/goblin like tendencies. So much can be quelled when staff come off as more of a vibe setter than an authoritarian, and I feel like GL has nailed that balance for the most part.

I also would like to say that while I like making people laugh, I know full well that I occasionally push the line of what is acceptable, and I know being a representative of the server comes with standards in that regard. I feel there are plenty of prior references in this community who can vouch for my ability to be professional, and I’m mindful of this.
Why should you be considered for a moderator position?
I think I have enough experience and time that this community could benefit from. For a while now, I have been terribly bored of other games out there, and I’ve thoroughly enjoyed my time in Giant’s Lair. I can not promise that I will remain for years, but I see myself at least being active for a couple of months, roughly 10 hours a week.

If I am going to be playing, I’d like to be able to contribute. Also, selfishly, I get bored during spectator and would love to have something to do. My instincts for moderation never really left, and I find myself wanting to gag mic spammers while staff are alive/occupied or to deal with Rhazh.

I know there are concerns from past behavior, mainly things I did in the early days. If anyone wants something answered, I would be glad to share my perspective. I think I’ve been pretty unambiguous about how lame some of the things I did were, and genuinely find it cringe. All I can really say at this point is my relationship with Giant’s Lair is one of reminiscing with old friends and a genuine enjoyment of the people here as well as the game whereas SGM became something different. It was the most prominent thing in my life during some very low teenage years, and I sought validation from an external source. Power games and schemes ruined my reputation and good friendships and netted me no benefit. One of the lessons SGM taught me, and really many of these people here taught me, was trading people for things isn’t only wrong, it’s ineffective. Good people tend toward good outcomes, and bad people remain losers. I am thankful for the lessons I learned, as the last few years have been by bar the best, most lucrative part of my life so far and I genuinely believe my experiences and relationships in SGM contributed to that positively. Many of us spent many formative years together, I missed y’all.

Anyways, thanks for reading, and I would be glad to offer my abilities for the duration of my time here. Hope I didn’t butcher the format too badly.

I've been having a great time getting to know you. You do toe the line occasionally, and I in no way think that's a bad thing. You're chill, you have the experience, you know to get along with players, you're fun in game and in the chat. No reason from me to not +1 ?

I haven't had the pleasure of playing with you much in-game, but I *have* had the pleasure of seeing you on the discord. I think you bring good vibes and activity to it, thank you for that - that's pretty darn cool of you <3
Pending me having seen more of how you act in-game, I can't weigh in more decisively on whether I think you'd be a good addition all in all. But you're definitely on the right track.

The main reason I'm pre-commenting ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) is this part of your application:

It's great that you're mindful of it, that goes almost without saying. But knowing full well that you do push the line, do you think that would affect how you handle others that push the line in the event that you become moderator? Do you think you would be more lenient or more harsh on people who get a little too silly?
In a thought experiment, how would Muffin the moderator handle someone pushing the boundary the same way you sometimes do?

(Not sure if regular members can comment...?)

We have played quite a bit together so far. You do toe the line, but in a charming humerous way. Not necessarily in a "being a dick and ruining the game" for others type of way. Can say you make the games a positive experience <3

+1, also what flavor of muffin are you? Lemme know on discord uwu

Muffin did a great job as mod & admin in STTT. We have shared many good memories together and it pleases me to see you so active in the community on discord and in-game, joking around and creating good vibes with your conversations and sense of humor. I think the staff team could use someone like you who will communicate and contribute to a positive environment for everyone. Big +1

Muffin I could go into detail about how I've known you for over 10 years and what your qualifications are, and of course you have them, but what I've found most impressive is the players on the server like you, and they like playing with you. That's what is wanted and needed.

Don't forget to call me on Skype later.

+1.

YOU TOLD ME YOU WOULDN'T DO THIS

To be fair I didn’t think I would. It’s likely a more mid term thing however, I’m not expecting to be staff for years again or anything like that but I don’t really have anything else I’m playing outside of single player games at this point so why not I figured. Also being Mod with some of the people on staff currently would be cool, as I didn’t interact with them much.

Also thanks everyone for your kind words! I’m very glad my vibe comes off much better lol. I like to think I’ve mellowed out some now that I’m pushing THIRTY. God time is accelerating as I get older.

Also clearly banana nut. Was there ever doubt?

I also meant to reply to this;

I think to me, it comes down to the vibe and perceived intention of things like that. If it’s clearly something that crosses a line and makes people feel uncomfortable, it’s our job as staff to “procure the vibe”. If something is slightly edgy but not overt and everyone appears to take it as such? I’d probably be more lenient, assuming the rules weren’t broken really.

I think in my time back here, I’ve made probably 2 jokes/statements unbecoming of staff, but the culture shock of being back involved in an online community has worn off, and I do feel that I know where that line is.
For better or worse, I’m very opinionated and will speak my mind, but I do work in an office all day and manage to not get called into HR so I’ll just behave more like that while I intend to represent the server.

Good question, see ya around!

I think this is both a fair and balanced answer. And since what I've experienced in Discord seems to mirror what people see from you in-game, I feel pretty confident that you'd be worth a shot mod. I like opinionated people as well, so I'd generally consider that for better - as long as you can communicate your opinions in a positive and constructive way <3

honestly its been a blast talking with you again, and you've been fun to play with on the server, massive +1

It’s been fun! I remember working with you a bit with CD. Thanks for the kind words, let’s play some BG3 at some point.

Active, fun to play with, and experienced as a mod/admin! You’re very engaging with other players on the server and can see they enjoy you a lot! I would pick you up if my slots weren’t full. Hopefully someone gets you soon! Good luck!
